Verse (28:53), Word 12 - Quranic Grammar

The twelfth word of verse (28:53) is divided into 2 morphological segments. A verb and subject pronoun. The perfect verb (فعل ماض) is first person plural. The verb's triliteral root is kāf wāw nūn (ك و ن). The verb (كان) belongs to a special group of words known as kāna and her sisters (كان واخواتها). The suffix (نا) is an attached subject pronoun.

Sahih International: And when it is recited to them, they say, "We have believed in it; indeed, it is the truth from our Lord. Indeed we were, [even] before it, Muslims [submitting to Allah]."
