Verse (24:2), Word 3 - Quranic Grammar

The third word of verse (24:2) is divided into 3 morphological segments. A resumption particle, verb and subject pronoun. The connective particle fa is usually translated as "then" or "so" and is used to indicate a sequence of events. The imperative verb (فعل أمر) is second person masculine plural. The verb's triliteral root is jīm lām dāl (ج ل د). The suffix (الواو) is an attached subject pronoun.

Verse (24:2)

The analysis above refers to the second verse of chapter 24 (sūrat l-nūr):

Sahih International: The [unmarried] woman or [unmarried] man found guilty of sexual intercourse - lash each one of them with a hundred lashes, and do not be taken by pity for them in the religion of Allah , if you should believe in Allah and the Last Day. And let a group of the believers witness their punishment.
