Verse (24:2), Word 22 - Quranic Grammar

The 22nd word of verse (24:2) is divided into 3 morphological segments. A conjunction, imperative particle and verb. The prefixed conjunction wa is usually translated as "and". The prefixed particle lām is usually translated as "let" and is used to form an imperative construction. The imperfect verb (فعل مضارع) is third person masculine singular and is in the jussive mood (مجزوم). The verb's triliteral root is shīn hā dāl (ش ه د).

Sahih International: The [unmarried] woman or [unmarried] man found guilty of sexual intercourse - lash each one of them with a hundred lashes, and do not be taken by pity for them in the religion of Allah , if you should believe in Allah and the Last Day. And let a group of the believers witness their punishment.
