Verse (20:71), Word 18 - Quranic Grammar

The eighteenth word of verse (20:71) is divided into 5 morphological segments. A conjunction, emphatic prefix, verb, emphatic suffix and object pronoun. The prefixed conjunction wa is usually translated as "and". The prefixed particle lām is usually translated as "surely" or "indeed" and is used to add emphasis. The form II imperfect verb (فعل مضارع) is first person singular and is in the indicative mood (مرفوع). The verb's triliteral root is ṣād lām bā (ص ل ب). The suffixed emphatic particle is known as the nūn of emphasis (نون التوكيد). The attached object pronoun is second person masculine plural.

Sahih International: [Pharaoh] said, "You believed him before I gave you permission. Indeed, he is your leader who has taught you magic. So I will surely cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, and I will crucify you on the trunks of palm trees, and you will surely know which of us is more severe in [giving] punishment and more enduring."
