Verse (18:50), Word 5 - Quranic Grammar

__

The fifth word of verse (18:50) is divided into 2 morphological segments. A preposition and proper noun. The prefixed preposition lām is usually translated as "for". The proper noun is masculine and is in the genitive case (مجرور). The case marker is a fatḥah instead of a kasrah because the proper noun is a diptote (ممنوع من الصرف). Together the segments form a preposition phrase known as jār wa majrūr (جار ومجرور).

Chapter (18) sūrat l-kahf (The Cave)

(18:50:5)
liādama
to Adam,"
P – prefixed preposition lām
PN – genitive masculine proper noun → Adam
جار ومجرور

Verse (18:50)

The analysis above refers to the 50th verse of chapter 18 (sūrat l-kahf):

Sahih International: And [mention] when We said to the angels, "Prostrate to Adam," and they prostrated, except for Iblees. He was of the jinn and departed from the command of his Lord. Then will you take him and his descendants as allies other than Me while they are enemies to you? Wretched it is for the wrongdoers as an exchange.
