Verse (18:24), Word 14 - Quranic Grammar

__

The fourteenth word of verse (18:24) is divided into 2 morphological segments. A preposition and noun. The prefixed preposition lām is usually translated as "for". The noun is masculine singular and is in the genitive case (مجرور). The case marker is a fatḥah instead of a kasrah because the noun is a diptote (ممنوع من الصرف). The noun's triliteral root is qāf rā bā (ق ر ب). Together the segments form a preposition phrase known as jār wa majrūr (جار ومجرور).
