Verse (18:21), Word 4 - Quranic Grammar

The fourth word of verse (18:21) is divided into 3 morphological segments. A particle of purpose, verb and subject pronoun. The prefixed particle lām is used to indicate the purpose of an action and makes the following verb subjunctive. The imperfect verb (فعل مضارع) is third person masculine plural and is in the subjunctive mood (منصوب). The verb's triliteral root is ʿayn lām mīm (ع ل م). The suffix (الواو) is an attached subject pronoun.

Verse (18:21)

The analysis above refers to the 21st verse of chapter 18 (sūrat l-kahf):

Sahih International: And similarly, We caused them to be found that they [who found them] would know that the promise of Allah is truth and that of the Hour there is no doubt. [That was] when they disputed among themselves about their affair and [then] said, "Construct over them a structure. Their Lord is most knowing about them." Said those who prevailed in the matter, "We will surely take [for ourselves] over them a masjid."
