Verse (17:8), Word 8 - Quranic Grammar

The eighth word of verse (17:8) is divided into 3 morphological segments. A conjunction, verb and subject pronoun. The prefixed conjunction wa is usually translated as "and". The perfect verb (فعل ماض) is first person plural. The verb's triliteral root is jīm ʿayn lām (ج ع ل). The suffix (نا) is an attached subject pronoun.

Verse (17:8)

The analysis above refers to the eighth verse of chapter 17 (sūrat l-isrā):

Sahih International: [Then Allah said], "It is expected, [if you repent], that your Lord will have mercy upon you. But if you return [to sin], We will return [to punishment]. And We have made Hell, for the disbelievers, a prison-bed."
