Verse (17:59), Word 12 - Quranic Grammar

__

The twelfth word of verse (17:59) is a proper noun in the genitive case (مجرور). The case marker is a fatḥah instead of a kasrah because the proper noun is a diptote (ممنوع من الصرف).

Chapter (17) sūrat l-isrā (The Night Journey)

(17:59:12)
thamūda
Thamud
PN – genitive proper noun → Thamud اسم علم مجرور بالفتحة بدلاً من الكسرة لأنه ممنوع من الصرف

Verse (17:59)

The analysis above refers to the 59th verse of chapter 17 (sūrat l-isrā):

Sahih International: And nothing has prevented Us from sending signs except that the former peoples denied them. And We gave Thamud the she-camel as a visible sign, but they wronged her. And We send not the signs except as a warning.
