Verse (16:73), Word 1 - Quranic Grammar


The first word of verse (16:73) is divided into 3 morphological segments. A conjunction, verb and subject pronoun. The prefixed conjunction wa is usually translated as "and". The imperfect verb (فعل مضارع) is third person masculine plural and is in the indicative mood (مرفوع). The verb's triliteral root is ʿayn bā dāl (ع ب د). The analysis above refers to the 73rd verse of chapter 16 (sūrat l-naḥl):

Sahih International: And they worship besides Allah that which does not possess for them [the power of] provision from the heavens and the earth at all, and [in fact], they are unable.
