Verse (16:28), Word 9 - Quranic Grammar

The ninth word of verse (16:28) is divided into 2 morphological segments. A verb and subject pronoun. The perfect verb (فعل ماض) is first person plural. The verb's triliteral root is kāf wāw nūn (ك و ن). The verb (كان) belongs to a special group of words known as kāna and her sisters (كان واخواتها). The suffix (نا) is an attached subject pronoun.

Verse (16:28)

The analysis above refers to the 28th verse of chapter 16 (sūrat l-naḥl):

Sahih International: The ones whom the angels take in death [while] wronging themselves, and [who] then offer submission, [saying], "We were not doing any evil." But, yes! Indeed, Allah is Knowing of what you used to do.
