Verse (14:21), Word 25 - Quranic Grammar

The 25th word of verse (14:21) is divided into 4 morphological segments. An emphatic prefix, verb, subject pronoun and object pronoun. The prefixed particle lām is usually translated as "surely" or "indeed" and is used to add emphasis. The perfect verb (فعل ماض) is first person plural. The verb's triliteral root is hā dāl yā (ه د ي). The suffix (نا) is an attached subject pronoun. The attached object pronoun is second person masculine plural.

Verse (14:21)

The analysis above refers to the 21st verse of chapter 14 (sūrat ib'rāhīm):

Sahih International: And they will come out [for judgement] before Allah all together, and the weak will say to those who were arrogant, "Indeed, we were your followers, so can you avail us anything against the punishment of Allah ?" They will say, "If Allah had guided us, we would have guided you. It is all the same for us whether we show intolerance or are patient: there is for us no place of escape."
