Verse (14:17), Word 3 - Quranic Grammar

The third word of verse (14:17) is an imperfect verb (فعل مضارع). The verb is third person masculine singular and is in the indicative mood (مرفوع). The verb's triliteral root is kāf wāw dāl (ك و د). The verb (يكاد) belongs to a special group of words known as kāda and her sisters (كاد واخواتها).

Sahih International: He will gulp it but will hardly [be able to] swallow it. And death will come to him from everywhere, but he is not to die. And before him is a massive punishment.
