Verse (12:66), Word 6 - Quranic Grammar

The sixth word of verse (12:66) is divided into 3 morphological segments. A verb, subject pronoun and object pronoun. The form IV imperfect verb (فعل مضارع) is second person masculine plural and is in the subjunctive mood (منصوب). The verb's triliteral root is hamza tā yā (أ ت ي). The suffix (الواو) is an attached subject pronoun. The of the first person singular object pronoun has been omitted due to elision (الياء محذوفة), and is indicated by the kasrah.

Sahih International: [Jacob] said, "Never will I send him with you until you give me a promise by Allah that you will bring him [back] to me, unless you should be surrounded by enemies." And when they had given their promise, he said, " Allah , over what we say, is Witness."
