Verse (11:8), Word 1 - Quranic Grammar

The first word of verse (11:8) is divided into 3 morphological segments. A conjunction, emphatic prefix and conditional particle. The prefixed conjunction wa is usually translated as "and". The prefixed particle lām is usually translated as "surely" or "indeed" and is used to add emphasis.

Sahih International: And if We hold back from them the punishment for a limited time, they will surely say, "What detains it?" Unquestionably, on the Day it comes to them, it will not be averted from them, and they will be enveloped by what they used to ridicule.
