Chapter (26) sūrat l-shuʿarā (The Poets)

Sahih International: So I fled from you when I feared you. Then my Lord granted me wisdom and prophethood and appointed me [as one] of the messengers.

Pickthall: Then I fled from you when I feared you, and my Lord vouchsafed me a command and appointed me (of the number) of those sent (by Him).

Yusuf Ali: "So I fled from you (all) when I feared you; but my Lord has (since) invested me with judgment (and wisdom) and appointed me as one of the messengers.

Shakir: So I fled from you when I feared you, then my Lord granted me wisdom and made me of the messengers;

Muhammad Sarwar: Then I ran away from you in fear, but my Lord granted me the law and has appointed me as a Messenger.

Mohsin Khan: "So I fled from you when I feared you. But my Lord has granted me Hukman (i.e. religious knowledge, right judgement of the affairs and Prophethood), and appointed me as one of the Messengers.

Arberry: so I fled from you, fearing you. But my Lord gave me Judgment and made me one of the Envoys.
