The triliteral root thā qāf lām (ث ق ل) occurs 28 times in the Quran, in eight derived forms:

  • four times as the form I verb thaqulat (ثَقُلَتْ)
  • once as the form IV verb athqalat (أَثْقَلَت)
  • once as the form VI verb ithāqal (ٱثَّاقَلْ)
  • six times as the noun thaqalān (ثَّقَلَان)
  • five times as the nominal thaqīl (ثَقِيل)
  • eight times as the noun mith'qāl (مِثْقَال)
  • twice as the form IV passive participle muth'qalūn (مُّثْقَلُون)
  • once as the form IV passive participle muth'qalat (مُثْقَلَة)

Verb (form I) - to be heavy

(7:8:5) thaqulat(will be) heavy وَالْوَزْنُ يَوْمَئِذٍ الْحَقُّ فَمَنْ ثَقُلَتْ مَوَازِينُهُ فَأُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ الْمُفْلِحُونَ
(7:187:16) thaqulatIt lays heavily ثَقُلَتْ فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ لَا تَأْتِيكُمْ إِلَّا بَغْتَةً
