The triliteral root nūn wāw mīm (ن و م) occurs nine times in the Quran, in three derived forms:

  • four times as the noun manām (مَنَام)
  • three times as the noun nawm (نَوْم)
  • twice as the active participle nāimūn (نَآئِمُون)

(8:43:5) manāmikayour dream إِذْ يُرِيكَهُمُ اللَّهُ فِي مَنَامِكَ قَلِيلًا
(30:23:3) manāmukum(is) your sleep وَمِنْ آيَاتِهِ مَنَامُكُمْ بِاللَّيْلِ وَالنَّهَارِ وَابْتِغَاؤُكُمْ مِنْ فَضْلِهِ
(37:102:10) l-manāmithe dream يَا بُنَيَّ إِنِّي أَرَىٰ فِي الْمَنَامِ أَنِّي أَذْبَحُكَ فَانْظُرْ مَاذَا تَرَىٰ
(39:42:10) manāmihātheir sleep اللَّهُ يَتَوَفَّى الْأَنْفُسَ حِينَ مَوْتِهَا وَالَّتِي لَمْ تَمُتْ فِي مَنَامِهَا

(2:255:12) nawmunsleep اللَّهُ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ الْحَيُّ الْقَيُّومُ لَا تَأْخُذُهُ سِنَةٌ وَلَا نَوْمٌ
(25:47:7) wal-nawmaand the sleep وَهُوَ الَّذِي جَعَلَ لَكُمُ اللَّيْلَ لِبَاسًا وَالنَّوْمَ سُبَاتًا
(78:9:2) nawmakumyour sleep وَجَعَلْنَا نَوْمَكُمْ سُبَاتًا

Active participle

(7:97:9) nāimūna(were) asleep أَفَأَمِنَ أَهْلُ الْقُرَىٰ أَنْ يَأْتِيَهُمْ بَأْسُنَا بَيَاتًا وَهُمْ نَائِمُونَ
(68:19:7) nāimūnawere asleep فَطَافَ عَلَيْهَا طَائِفٌ مِنْ رَبِّكَ وَهُمْ نَائِمُونَ
