The triliteral root lām ghayn wāw (ل غ و) occurs 11 times in the Quran, in three derived forms:

  • once as the form I verb al'gha (ٱلْغَ)
  • nine times as the noun laghū (لَغْو)
  • once as the active participle lāghiyat (لَٰغِيَة)

Verb (form I) - to make noise

(41:26:8) wal-ghawand make noise وَقَالَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا لَا تَسْمَعُوا لِهَٰذَا الْقُرْآنِ وَالْغَوْا فِيهِ
