Quran Dictionary - ب و ر

The triliteral root bā wāw rā (ب و ر) occurs five times in the Quran, in three derived forms:

  • twice as the form I verb yabūru (يَبُورُ)
  • once as the noun bawār (بَوَار)
  • twice as the adjective būr (بُور)

Verb (form I) - to perish

(35:10:24) yabūru(will) perish وَالَّذِينَ يَمْكُرُونَ السَّيِّئَاتِ لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ شَدِيدٌ وَمَكْرُ أُولَٰئِكَ هُوَ يَبُورُ
(35:29:16) tabūrait will perish وَأَنْفَقُوا مِمَّا رَزَقْنَاهُمْ سِرًّا وَعَلَانِيَةً يَرْجُونَ تِجَارَةً لَنْ تَبُورَ

Noun

(14:28:12) l-bawāri(of) destruction أَلَمْ تَرَ إِلَى الَّذِينَ بَدَّلُوا نِعْمَتَ اللَّهِ كُفْرًا وَأَحَلُّوا قَوْمَهُمْ دَارَ الْبَوَارِ

Adjective

(25:18:21) būranruined وَلَٰكِنْ مَتَّعْتَهُمْ وَآبَاءَهُمْ حَتَّىٰ نَسُوا الذِّكْرَ وَكَانُوا قَوْمًا بُورًا
(48:12:20) būranruined وَزُيِّنَ ذَٰلِكَ فِي قُلُوبِكُمْ وَظَنَنْتُمْ ظَنَّ السَّوْءِ وَكُنْتُمْ قَوْمًا بُورًا
