Quran Dictionary - ب ر ز

The triliteral root bā rā zāy (ب ر ز) occurs nine times in the Quran, in four derived forms:

  • five times as the form I verb baraza (بَرَزَ)
  • twice as the form II verb burrizati (بُرِّزَتِ)
  • once as the active participle bārizūn (بَٰرِزُون)
  • once as the active participle bārizat (بَارِزَة)

Verb (form I) - to come forth, to go out

(2:250:2) barazūthey went forth وَلَمَّا بَرَزُوا لِجَالُوتَ وَجُنُودِهِ قَالُوا رَبَّنَا أَفْرِغْ عَلَيْنَا صَبْرًا
(3:154:56) labarazasurely (would have) come out قُلْ لَوْ كُنْتُمْ فِي بُيُوتِكُمْ لَبَرَزَ الَّذِينَ كُتِبَ عَلَيْهِمُ الْقَتْلُ
(4:81:4) barazūthey leave فَإِذَا بَرَزُوا مِنْ عِنْدِكَ بَيَّتَ طَائِفَةٌ مِنْهُمْ غَيْرَ الَّذِي تَقُولُ
(14:21:1) wabarazūAnd they will come forth وَبَرَزُوا لِلَّهِ جَمِيعًا فَقَالَ الضُّعَفَاءُ لِلَّذِينَ اسْتَكْبَرُوا إِنَّا كُنَّا لَكُمْ تَبَعًا
(14:48:7) wabarazūand they will come forth وَبَرَزُوا لِلَّهِ الْوَاحِدِ الْقَهَّارِ

Verb (form II) - to make manifest

(26:91:1) waburrizatiAnd (will be) made manifest وَبُرِّزَتِ الْجَحِيمُ لِلْغَاوِينَ
(79:36:1) waburrizatiAnd will be made manifest وَبُرِّزَتِ الْجَحِيمُ لِمَنْ يَرَىٰ

Active participle

(40:16:3) bārizūnacome forth يَوْمَ هُمْ بَارِزُونَ لَا يَخْفَىٰ عَلَى اللَّهِ مِنْهُمْ شَيْءٌ

Active participle

(18:47:6) bārizatan(as) a leveled plain وَتَرَى الْأَرْضَ بَارِزَةً وَحَشَرْنَاهُمْ فَلَمْ نُغَادِرْ مِنْهُمْ أَحَدًا
