The triliteral root ʿayn ṣād rā (ع ص ر) occurs five times in the Quran, in four derived forms:

  • twice as the form I verb yaʿṣiru (يَعْصِرُ)
  • once as the noun ʿaṣr (عَصْر)
  • once as the form IV verbal noun iʿ'ṣār (إِعْصَار)
  • once as the form IV active participle muʿ'ṣirāt (مُعْصِرَٰت)

(12:36:9) aʿṣirupressing قَالَ أَحَدُهُمَا إِنِّي أَرَانِي أَعْصِرُ خَمْرًا
(12:49:11) yaʿṣirūnathey will press فِيهِ يُغَاثُ النَّاسُ وَفِيهِ يَعْصِرُونَ

(78:14:3) l-muʿ'ṣirātithe rain clouds وَأَنْزَلْنَا مِنَ الْمُعْصِرَاتِ مَاءً ثَجَّاجًا
