The triliteral root hamza yā dāl (أ ي د) occurs 11 times in the Quran, in two derived forms:

  • nine times as the form II verb ayyada (أَيَّدَ)
  • twice as the noun ayīd (أَيْيد)

Verb (form II) - to support, to strengthen

(2:87:14) wa-ayyadnāhuand We supported him وَآتَيْنَا عِيسَى ابْنَ مَرْيَمَ الْبَيِّنَاتِ وَأَيَّدْنَاهُ بِرُوحِ الْقُدُسِ
(2:253:19) wa-ayyadnāhuand We supported him وَآتَيْنَا عِيسَى ابْنَ مَرْيَمَ الْبَيِّنَاتِ وَأَيَّدْنَاهُ بِرُوحِ الْقُدُسِ

(8:62:10) ayyadakasupported you هُوَ الَّذِي أَيَّدَكَ بِنَصْرِهِ وَبِالْمُؤْمِنِينَ
(9:40:28) wa-ayyadahuand supported him فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ سَكِينَتَهُ عَلَيْهِ وَأَيَّدَهُ بِجُنُودٍ لَمْ تَرَوْهَا
(58:22:27) wa-ayyadahumand supported them أُولَٰئِكَ كَتَبَ فِي قُلُوبِهِمُ الْإِيمَانَ وَأَيَّدَهُمْ بِرُوحٍ مِنْهُ
(61:14:29) fa-ayyadnāSo We supported فَأَيَّدْنَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا عَلَىٰ عَدُوِّهِمْ فَأَصْبَحُوا ظَاهِرِينَ
