The triliteral root hamza sīn wāw (أ س و) occurs seven times in the Quran, in two derived forms:

  • four times as the form I verb tasa (تَأْسَ)
  • three times as the noun us'wat (أُسْوَة)

Verb (form I) - to grieve

(5:26:11) tasagrieve يَتِيهُونَ فِي الْأَرْضِ فَلَا تَأْسَ عَلَى الْقَوْمِ الْفَاسِقِينَ
(5:68:27) tasagrieve فَلَا تَأْسَ عَلَى الْقَوْمِ الْكَافِرِينَ
(7:93:12) āsāI grieve فَكَيْفَ آسَىٰ عَلَىٰ قَوْمٍ كَافِرِينَ
