The triliteral root sīn mīm nūn (س م ن) occurs four times in the Quran, in two derived forms:

  • once as the form IV verb yus'minu (يُسْمِنُ)
  • three times as the adjective samīn (سَمِين)

Verb (form IV) - to nourish

(88:7:2) yus'minuit nourishes لَا يُسْمِنُ وَلَا يُغْنِي مِنْ جُوعٍ

Adjective

(12:43:7) simāninfat وَقَالَ الْمَلِكُ إِنِّي أَرَىٰ سَبْعَ بَقَرَاتٍ سِمَانٍ يَأْكُلُهُنَّ سَبْعٌ عِجَافٌ
(12:46:8) simāninfat يُوسُفُ أَيُّهَا الصِّدِّيقُ أَفْتِنَا فِي سَبْعِ بَقَرَاتٍ سِمَانٍ يَأْكُلُهُنَّ سَبْعٌ عِجَافٌ
(51:26:6) samīninfat فَرَاغَ إِلَىٰ أَهْلِهِ فَجَاءَ بِعِجْلٍ سَمِينٍ
