The triliteral root rā kāf nūn (ر ك ن) occurs four times in the Quran, in two derived forms:

  • twice as the form I verb tarkanu (تَرْكَنُ)
  • twice as the noun ruk'n (رُكْن)

Verb (form I) - to incline

(11:113:2) tarkanūincline وَلَا تَرْكَنُوا إِلَى الَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا فَتَمَسَّكُمُ النَّارُ
(17:74:6) tarkanu(would) have inclined وَلَوْلَا أَنْ ثَبَّتْنَاكَ لَقَدْ كِدْتَ تَرْكَنُ إِلَيْهِمْ شَيْئًا قَلِيلًا

Noun

(11:80:10) ruk'nina support قَالَ لَوْ أَنَّ لِي بِكُمْ قُوَّةً أَوْ آوِي إِلَىٰ رُكْنٍ شَدِيدٍ
(51:39:2) biruk'nihiwith his supporters فَتَوَلَّىٰ بِرُكْنِهِ وَقَالَ سَاحِرٌ أَوْ مَجْنُونٌ
