The triliteral root nūn shīn rā (ن ش ر) occurs 21 times in the Quran, in 10 derived forms:

  • three times as the form I verb nushirat (نُشِرَتْ)
  • three times as the form IV verb anshara (أَنشَرَ)
  • three times as the form VIII verb tantashiru (تَنتَشِرُ)
  • once as the noun nashr (نَشْر)
  • five times as the noun nushūr (نُشُور)
  • once as the active participle nāshirāt (نَّٰشِرَٰت)
  • twice as the passive participle manshūr (مَنشُور)

Verb (form I) - to spread, to lay open

(18:16:10) yanshurWill spread فَأْوُوا إِلَى الْكَهْفِ يَنْشُرْ لَكُمْ رَبُّكُمْ مِنْ رَحْمَتِهِ
(42:28:9) wayanshuruand spreads وَهُوَ الَّذِي يُنَزِّلُ الْغَيْثَ مِنْ بَعْدِ مَا قَنَطُوا وَيَنْشُرُ رَحْمَتَهُ

Verb (form IV) - to raise, to revive, to resurrect

(43:11:7) fa-ansharnāthen We revive وَالَّذِي نَزَّلَ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ مَاءً بِقَدَرٍ فَأَنْشَرْنَا بِهِ بَلْدَةً مَيْتًا

Verb (form VIII) - to disperse

(30:20:11) tantashirūnadispersing وَمِنْ آيَاتِهِ أَنْ خَلَقَكُمْ مِنْ تُرَابٍ ثُمَّ إِذَا أَنْتُمْ بَشَرٌ تَنْتَشِرُونَ
(33:53:23) fa-intashirūthen disperse وَلَٰكِنْ إِذَا دُعِيتُمْ فَادْخُلُوا فَإِذَا طَعِمْتُمْ فَانْتَشِرُوا
