The triliteral root kāf nūn zāy (ك ن ز) occurs nine times in the Quran, in two derived forms:

  • three times as the form I verb kanaz (كَنَزْ)
  • six times as the noun kanz (كَنز)

Verb (form I) - to hoard

(9:34:18) yaknizūnahoard وَالَّذِينَ يَكْنِزُونَ الذَّهَبَ وَالْفِضَّةَ وَلَا يُنْفِقُونَهَا فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ فَبَشِّرْهُمْ بِعَذَابٍ أَلِيمٍ
(9:35:14) kanaztumyou hoarded هَٰذَا مَا كَنَزْتُمْ لِأَنْفُسِكُمْ
(9:35:19) taknizūnahoard فَذُوقُوا مَا كُنْتُمْ تَكْنِزُونَ
