The triliteral root fā jīm rā (ف ج ر) occurs 24 times in the Quran, in nine derived forms:

  • twice as the form I verb yafjura (يَفْجُرَ)
  • six times as the form II verb fujjirat (فُجِّرَتْ)
  • once as the form V verb yatafajjaru (يَتَفَجَّرُ)
  • once as the form VII verb infajarat (ٱنفَجَرَتْ)
  • six times as the noun fajr (فَجْر)
  • once as the noun fujūr (فُجُور)
  • once as the active participle fājir (فَاجِر)
  • four times as the active participle fujjār (فُجَّار)
  • twice as the form II verbal noun tafjīr (تَفْجِير)

Verb (form I) - to give lie

(17:90:6) tafjurayou cause to gush forth وَقَالُوا لَنْ نُؤْمِنَ لَكَ حَتَّىٰ تَفْجُرَ لَنَا مِنَ الْأَرْضِ يَنْبُوعًا
(75:5:4) liyafjurato give (the) lie بَلْ يُرِيدُ الْإِنْسَانُ لِيَفْجُرَ أَمَامَهُ

Verb (form II) - to cause gush

(17:91:8) fatufajjiraand cause to gush forth فَتُفَجِّرَ الْأَنْهَارَ خِلَالَهَا تَفْجِيرًا
(18:33:9) wafajjarnāAnd We caused to gush forth وَفَجَّرْنَا خِلَالَهُمَا نَهَرًا
(36:34:7) wafajjarnāand We caused to gush forth وَجَعَلْنَا فِيهَا جَنَّاتٍ مِنْ نَخِيلٍ وَأَعْنَابٍ وَفَجَّرْنَا فِيهَا مِنَ الْعُيُونِ
(54:12:1) wafajjarnāAnd We caused to burst وَفَجَّرْنَا الْأَرْضَ عُيُونًا فَالْتَقَى الْمَاءُ عَلَىٰ أَمْرٍ قَدْ قُدِرَ
