The triliteral root ḥā ṣād nūn (ح ص ن) occurs 18 times in the Quran, in six derived forms:

  • five times as the form IV verb aḥṣanat (أَحْصَنَتْ)
  • once as the noun ḥuṣūn (حُصُون)
  • once as the form II passive participle muḥaṣṣanat (مُّحَصَّنَة)
  • twice as the form IV active participle muḥ'ṣinīn (مُّحْصِنِين)
  • eight times as the form IV passive participle muḥ'ṣanāt (مُحْصَنَٰت)
  • once as the form V verbal noun taḥaṣṣun (تَحَصُّن)

Verb (form IV) - to guard, to protect

(4:25:36) uḥ'ṣinnathey are married فَإِذَا أُحْصِنَّ فَإِنْ أَتَيْنَ بِفَاحِشَةٍ فَعَلَيْهِنَّ نِصْفُ مَا عَلَى الْمُحْصَنَاتِ مِنَ الْعَذَابِ
(12:48:15) tuḥ'ṣinūnayou (will) store يَأْكُلْنَ مَا قَدَّمْتُمْ لَهُنَّ إِلَّا قَلِيلًا مِمَّا تُحْصِنُونَ
(21:80:5) lituḥ'ṣinakumto protect you وَعَلَّمْنَاهُ صَنْعَةَ لَبُوسٍ لَكُمْ لِتُحْصِنَكُمْ مِنْ بَأْسِكُمْ
