The triliteral root ʿayn rā yā (ع ر ي) occurs three times in the Quran, in two derived forms:

  • once as the form I verb taʿrā (تَعْرَىٰ)
  • twice as the noun ʿarā (عَرَآء)

Verb (form I) - to unclothe

(20:118:7) taʿrāyou will be unclothed إِنَّ لَكَ أَلَّا تَجُوعَ فِيهَا وَلَا تَعْرَىٰ

(37:145:2) bil-ʿarāionto the open shore فَنَبَذْنَاهُ بِالْعَرَاءِ وَهُوَ سَقِيمٌ
