The triliteral root ʿayn shīn wāw (ع ش و) occurs 14 times in the Quran, in four derived forms:

  • once as the form I verb yaʿshu (يَعْشُ)
  • twice as the noun ʿishā (عِشَآء)
  • 10 times as the nominal ʿashiīī (عَشِىّ)
  • once as the noun ʿashiyyat (عَشِيَّة)
